Really not to bad here, this was what was floating and fell out of the tub while we were draining it. You will notice though that the fiber is less than a half inch long.

In this picture you will notice that there is a stain on the concrete... kinda coppery stain... maybe from some nasty water?
Link to the most recent sale of said fiber on ebay... yes its the same guy. Poor Darrell

Amy
Okay Kristina...
you should feel so privileged, I just listened to your podcast. It was my VERY FIRST podcast EVER.
I'm no longer a podcast virgin....
but I digress....
Something I think you should know....
Buffalo fiber and yarns are a by-product of the meat industry. Any buffalo fiber you purchase, no matter if it has already been processed or if it is raw, will have come from a dead animal. Buffalo are NOT domesticated animals and are actually dangerous animals. They won't let you pet them much less shave them.
This is one reason why the fiber is so scarce, people don't eat much buffalo (although if you haven't tried it, it's REALLY good! More flavor than beef and a lot less fat.) so there is a limited amount of fiber produced each year. I also think that the only fiber that they use for yarn and fiber uses is that curly looking fluff around their shoulders, that makes it even more rare.
Now, I THINK (although I'm not sure) that buffalo shed some of their fur each spring, and I've wondered if that could be picked up and used.... but I wouldn't want to go into the pasture with the buffalo to do it.
With all that being said, it should NOT have smelled like a dead animal when you got it. I can understand it smelling, because animals do smell, but it sounds to me like he let the buffalo hide sit for a while before shearing off the fiber and sending it to you.
Ewwww....
